Key Insights
Dramatic Youth Population Decline: Czech Republic has experienced one of the most significant drops in young population, decreasing from 25.6% in 1960 to just 15.9% in 2024 – a decline of nearly 10 percentage points over 65 years.
Rapid Population Aging: The elderly population (65+ years) has more than doubled from 9.5% in 1960 to 20.5% in 2024, indicating a rapid transition to an aged society. The very elderly (80+ years) increased dramatically from 1.3% to 4.5%.
Working Age Population Stability: Despite demographic shifts, the working-age population (20-64 years) has remained relatively stable in recent years, accounting for 58.2% in 2024.
Historical Demographic Waves: The data shows distinct demographic waves – the young population peaked in the mid-1970s at around 23% before beginning its steady decline, while the elderly population growth accelerated significantly after 2010.
