Key Insights
Dramatic Demographic Shift: Poland has undergone a significant demographic transformation from 1960 to 2024. The young population (0-14 years) decreased from 33.2% to 15.1%, while the elderly population (65+ years) increased from 5.8% to 20.5%.
Rapid Aging Population: The most striking trend is the rapid aging of Poland’s population. The percentage of people aged 80+ has increased from just 0.7% in 1960 to 4.4% in 2024, representing a more than six-fold increase.
Working Age Population: The working-age population (20-64 years) fluctuated significantly, reaching its peak in recent years. The 2024 data shows 59.4% in this age group, indicating a stabilized but aging workforce.
Accelerated Transition: Poland’s demographic transition has been particularly rapid since 1990, with the young population declining from 25.3% in 1990 to 15.1% in 2024, while the elderly population more than doubled during the same period from 10.0% to 20.5%.
