Dramatic Demographic Shift: Slovenia has undergone a significant demographic transformation from 1982 to 2024. The young population (0-14 years) decreased from 22.9% to 14.7%, while the elderly population (65+ years) increased from 10.9% to 21.8%.
Aging Population: The most striking trend is the rapid aging of Slovenia’s population. The percentage of people aged 80+ has increased from just 1.8% in 1982 to 5.8% in 2024, representing more than a three-fold increase.
Working Age Population: The working-age population (20-64 years) has declined from a peak of 61.3% in 2022 to 58.6% in 2024, indicating growing pressure on the economically active population to support dependents.
Demographic Transition Timeline: The steepest decline in young population occurred between 1982-2008, while the elderly population growth accelerated after 2005, indicating Slovenia’s rapid transition to an aged society structure.
